Who We Are - Rabbi Bach
About Rabbi Bach

Rabbi Larry Bach was born and raised in Albany, New York. He graduated from the University at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts in Judaic Studies in 1991. After spending two years at the University of North Carolina Hillel Foundation, he entered the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion's rabbinical program. Rabbi Bach received his Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters in 1997, and was ordained Rabbi in June, 1998.

While studying at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Bach served communities in Bloomington, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky. His rabbinical thesis is an annotated translation of Rabbi Judah Leib Maimon's Renewing the Sanhedrin in our Renewed State. In his senior year, Rabbi Bach shared the Cora Kahn Prize for best sermon delivery and oratory of a graduating senior.

Rabbi Bach came to El Paso in July 1998, together with his wife, Alanna, and their daughter, Helaine. Their family grew in July 1999 with the birth of another daughter, Simona, and in March 2003 with the birth of their third daughter, Esther.

Since arriving in El Paso, Rabbi Bach has been especially involved in the musical life of the congregation through our volunteer choir, Shir Chadash ("a new song"), and has also sought to enhance a vibrant program for young adults and families. He also has a passion for interfaith programming and issues of social justice.

With the retirement of Ken Weiss in July 2002, Rabbi Bach became Rabbi of Temple Mount Sinai.

Rabbi Bach serves on the steering committee of Border Interfaith and on the YWCA Racial Justice Advisory Council. He is a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis.
