Havdallah Hike

Two options for the Havdallah service:  One group will leave Tom Mays Park climbing up through Mundy’s Gap to the top of North Franklin.  The hike is about 7 miles round trip and should take about 2.5 to 3 hours. The second group will climb to the tor downslope on the way to Mundy’s Gap.  This hike will be about 1.6 miles round trip.  The two groups will celebrate Havdallah at 5:00 PM at the tor.  We have had our Havdalah service there before.

Start time the longer hike will be 2:00 PM.  Start time for the shorter hike will be 4:00 PM.  The first option will be medium to difficult.  The second option is easy to medium in difficulty. There is a patch of loose rock near the beginning of each hike that requires slow and easy going.  Once beyond that patch, the trail is an old road created by a developer in the early 1970’s when he wanted to build a hotel on the mountain top.  That attempt led to the creation of the Franklin Mountains State Park.
