Tikkun Olam - Beth Israel Congregation

In the early morning hours of January 10, 2026, a devastating fire caused by arson damaged Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, Mississippi. While no one was injured and first responders prevented total destruction, the damage to the building and its contents was extensive. Authorities have confirmed antisemitic motives behind the attack, underscoring the painful reality that Jewish communities continue to face targeted violence. Beth Israel Congregation, a spiritual home for more than 160 years and the largest synagogue in Mississippi, also houses the offices of the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute for Southern Jewish Life (ISJL), which serves over 100 Jewish communities across the South, including Temple Mount Sinai and our religious school. Although the building is currently unusable, the congregation remains resilient and committed to continuing worship, education, and community life with the support of neighboring faith communities. Through our Tikkun Olam Fund, Temple Mount Sinai seeks to stand in solidarity with Beth Israel Congregation and the wider Southern Jewish community by offering meaningful support in a time of urgent need.
